Sleep Well with Mim Al-Noah

Sleep Well with Miriam Al-Noah

Miriam Al-Noah is a cook, caterer, and the founder of Meals with Mim. When she isn’t hosting events or in the kitchen, she works full time as a Brand and Content Manager. It’s a life built on a high-energy mix of creativity and corporate structure, where the “off” switch isn’t always easy to find. When your days are this full, rest becomes an intentional act. We spoke with Mim about how she navigates her two worlds, and the simple, sensory rituals she returns to when it’s time to slow down.

What does a typical day look like for you, balancing a corporate role with a creative one?

Every day is quite different, but typically I like to start with some exercise to get myself going, grab a coffee, then head into the office or work from home. Evenings are usually spent prepping for events, checking emails, or doing some cooking. I actually like the balance. They’re quite different, and I enjoy switching between the two.

How do you switch off and come back to yourself at the end of the day?

I’m really energised by being around people, but it’s definitely sacred for me to have time alone as well. Going to a yoga class or just sitting down with a tea and reflecting on the day is something I really value. That’s usually my way of coming back to myself. I also have a pretty good wind-down routine in the evenings which helps.

Do you find it easy to slow down, or is it something you have to consciously work at?

I probably like to bite off more than I can chew, which means I’m quite busy. Balancing that doesn’t always come naturally, so I definitely have to make a conscious decision to slow down. For me, it’s about taking a step back, giving myself some time alone to reflect, and prioritising what I’m working on. I get really excited about everything I’m doing, so sometimes I have to sit back and tell myself to slow down, go have a sauna, have a nap, and rest a bit.

After cooking so much for work, do you still find time to cook for yourself and enjoy it?

What I love most about cooking is being fully present. I’m not thinking about anything else. Even if I’ve been cooking a lot that week, I still find it really relaxing, especially when I’m cooking for family and friends.

What does your wind-down look like? Do you have any rituals you come back to?

I’m a bit of a skincare fanatic, so that’s usually my signal that the day is done. A good reminder to slow down and be more mindful. After that, I might read for a while, sometimes scroll on my phone, admittedly, and light a candle. I’m really into music as well, so I’ll usually put on something calming and fill the space with a scent I love. For me, it’s about keeping things simple. Low light, good music, and just taking the time to slow everything down.

Be honest, what does your sleep actually look like most nights?

I like to make it sound like I’m very calm, but I’ll admit I’m a sleep talker. I’ve been known to yap in my sleep, which isn’t ideal. I’ve actually tried using sleep tape. I know that’s not what it’s for, but it has helped me stop talking as much!
